About us
Founded in 2011 in Artegna, Trallallero festival is an idea by Teatro al Quadrato.
Edition after edition, the festival has gradually expanded, involving various municipalities and schools in the Gemonese area and the Torre Valleys (and beyond!).
Since 2019, Trallallero has become a national festival (part of the Assitej-Italia Festival Network) with an international focus, paying special attention to productions from Slovenia, Croatia, and Austria.
Edition after edition, various public and private entities have believed in our project, supporting us and allowing us to grow while aiming for increasingly ambitious goals.
Many friends and collaborators make up the staff of Trallallero festival: diverse skills and experiences, different ages and sensibilities. Thank you all!
Performances and workshops are selected from the proposals submitted in response to the call for participation (published in May), creating a balanced offering for different age groups and a well-rounded program featuring regional, national, and international companies.
The educational aspect is important and central to Trallallero.
For this reason, we dedicate great attention to experimenting with and developing structured dialogue spaces to encourage exchanges between artists, professionals, and programmers,
as well as specific pathways for the growth and professional development of artists under 35.
Various local entities have supported us year after year in expanding the artistic, educational, and training offerings of the festival. Building networks and collaborations has always been our greatest source of satisfaction.
Starting with the 2015 edition, Trallallero adopted a new format with a biennial schedule:
odd-numbered years are dedicated to the international showcase, while even-numbered years focus on training and the local territory.
Trallallero is a place of connection, a new way to meet and be discovered by professionals and the public, a space where people work together to grow both as professionals and individuals.
Opportunities to explore new working methods, to learn from the experiences of those who have dedicated their lives to youth theatre, or to share challenges and ideas in order to find the best path for professional growth, ideally while building new forms of connection.
With the “Criticare ad Arte” project, promoted by the MateariuM team—a laboratory for new dramaturgy—and dedicated to preview performances, Trallallero has initiated a structured dialogue fostering a constructive exchange between artists and theatre programmers. This initiative has positioned the festival as a key player in innovating the dynamics of showcase festivals.
The biennial format allows us to organize each edition of the festival more thoroughly, ensuring better management of theatre professionals and programmers, while fostering a constant and productive collaboration with local schools in the region.
